Year 2 Applied Fashion Design: Trend Book

Front of Trend Book:Embossed Text "Elements Spring/Summer '13
As a group we decided on the idea of creating a concertina book.

All the pages in my trend book were A4 landscape. I created these pages on Adobe In Design, i found it hard to create my trend book but i soon got the hang of how to arrange my pages on In design so it would print off as a booklet.
Final mood board on first page of trend book.

My Colour Board and with Performance Fabric's selection. By having a wide range of fabrics on a page was to show my understanding of what fabrics are featured within the mens sport collection. This showed my understanding on what  fabrics are in season for spring/summer 13 men's sportwear.

Other side of book
At the back of the book it features six illustration done on cad featuring my six key outfits from my collection with the colour swatches to represent the the key colours within the outfits. Each page featured the back view of the six outfits close up.

At the end of this project i'm pleased with the final outcome of my trend book, i think its looks good and turned out the way i intended it to. In order to present it professional for the trend event next year i will change parts of my book by adding text onto pages, typed up sticky labels for the fabrics in order to present it as professionally as possible. I feel that this project has helped me understand how to create a trend and how to interpret it further by creating my trend book as the end product. As this was the first time i had created a trend book im confident in creating a trend book in further projects. It has helped me to understand what needs to be included within a trend book, and what sort of information is recommended to be included inside it.

Year 2 Applied Fashion Design:Design Development

Design Development

Here are a selection of some my design development pages that feature fabrics samples and attention to detail samples.

I used to key design ideas which i developed from previous design work into design development ideas for my collection of six outfits. I sourced my two collections with a range of fabrics to support the design with the type of fabrics that would be used to create these garments.

Collection 1 Design Development

In the end i decided to go with similar designs above for my final six pieces for my collection. I  was happy with outfits designed and i felt that it could be brought forward within my trend book.

Collection 2 Design Development

These are design development ideas for the other collection i designed which helped  me decide out of the two collections was the best one to take forward.
Features design details on samples to represent the design drawn in my design development.

Final Illustrations

Here are my final six illustrations, which i combined hand drawing with photocopied catwalk poses using the head, arms and legs as i thought it would be interesting to combine the two together.

Year 2 Applied Fashion Design:Design Work

Design Work

These are a small selection of some of my design work. Using my mood board as inspiration i used key elements that i thought could be used to create key designs onto different garments by developing it in different ways over across a wide range of garments. This enabled me to create a wide range that would benefit me being able to create my key six pieces for my collection. I felt that now i could move onto create my collection as i had more than enough design ideas. I used key elements to explore through a wide range of mens sportwear clothing to see which key detail worked the best and developing more until i was happy i a range of outfits for this collection.

For this sheet i did some designs taking inspiration from my mood board i created a zig zag pattern i reduced and enlarged in size as a possible design for some jumpers as you can see above.
Taking inspiration from key imagery from my mood board of an entwined and layered mesh, i used elements of the image as inspiration for creating these design on these jackets and coats. I thought about having key detail just on the front of the jacket or on the sleeves to bring out the simple key silhouettes.
From there i moved on to creating a range of tops/hooded tops featuring a diamon, geometric shape. I thought about enlarging and reducing the size of the detail, to show developed variations on a range of different tops.
These are a range of bottoms i designed taking inspiration from my mood board using a mesh, enwined image. I was thinking about how it could be adapted as key detail on a range of bottoms. I used key detail as part of a a panelled design or a interesting pocket design.
Silhouette Boards

By drawing a wide range of design work ideas for Tops/Shorts/Pants/Jumpers/Jacket/Cardigans enabled me to choose my key eight pieces, which are seen here as my key eight pieces front and back view.
I chose a range of tops, jackets, shorts and pants.

Year 2: Applied Fashion Design Summer Reasearch

Summer Research

My starting point began by looking at the trend i was given "Men's Sport Fashion" S/S '13.I was dreading the thought of mens sports wear as all i could think of was casual sportswear you see in sports shops. The theme i was given was called "Earthly". Images that came to me was nature, natural environment, natural materials and texture. I was asked to create my own interpretation of this trend through my own mood board/shape and structure/ attention to detail. I struggled with what sort of imagery to include within my moodboard but came up with mood board for the moment, as i intend to change my moodboard later on to something better.

 Mood Board
My mood board consists of images that represent natural materials/textures to landscape pictures. Featuring pantone colours and fabrics for this trend. I feel that this board is just my starting point as i will rearrange it until i'm 100% happy with it.

Shape and Structure
These two pages are examples of shape and structure. Simple silhouette shapes used within creating the sports clothing above to looking at natural shapes/texture being possibles shapes/designs for sports fashion designs.

Attention to detail
For these two sheets of detail i was looking at padded stitching detail used within these sports jackets. Taking bits of it and enlarging/minimizing stitch size or combining different stitches to create similar effects from my inspiration. By creating stitch samples was a way of inspiring my research further by carrying this similar element within my design development.

Year 2 Applied Fashion Design:Research/ Performance

Three Boards

After research i began creating my initial thee boards Mood Board/Colour Board/Fabric Board. These will be inspiration boards for design work part of my research for later on.

Features key elements that represent the "Elements" concept of it being natural/textures/landscape as you see. These are the ideal key images that ill be able to design from.

I chose this image in particular as it featured all the initial colours i wanted for my colour board. A range sunset colours to ocean blues/grassy greens to grey and hints of pure white.

Research

"Sports Fashion/Performance Sports Fashion"

The area i was given to look at was "Performance", i looked at a range of sports fashion where the use of performance fabrics had been used to create garments. From the research page above the fabrics looked like they had a glossy sheen to it that reflected in the light appeared to be be waterproof fabrics that were functional.

This page was focused on new fabric technology, fabric that reacts with body heat which causes it to change colour from dark blue to a washed out light blue colour. The use of technology seems interesting as new and upcoming fabrics can change the way garments are made to be functional.

Here i was looking at the simple silhouettes that featured little detail as its all about it being functional. The use of 1 key functional pocket transforms the shirt as having one key detail that's practical as a pocket or just a design on the shirt. This cape has very limited detail simple silhouette its all about the cape being practical being able to layer underneath and wear this on top.

Performance fabrics

In order to understand the elements of performance fabrics i researched a wide range of performance fabrics in order to help me understand the fabric qualities. These fabrics were practical/waterproof/breathable/UV resistant .etc.
