Year 2 Applied Fashion Design:Research/ Performance

Three Boards

After research i began creating my initial thee boards Mood Board/Colour Board/Fabric Board. These will be inspiration boards for design work part of my research for later on.

Features key elements that represent the "Elements" concept of it being natural/textures/landscape as you see. These are the ideal key images that ill be able to design from.

I chose this image in particular as it featured all the initial colours i wanted for my colour board. A range sunset colours to ocean blues/grassy greens to grey and hints of pure white.

Research

"Sports Fashion/Performance Sports Fashion"

The area i was given to look at was "Performance", i looked at a range of sports fashion where the use of performance fabrics had been used to create garments. From the research page above the fabrics looked like they had a glossy sheen to it that reflected in the light appeared to be be waterproof fabrics that were functional.

This page was focused on new fabric technology, fabric that reacts with body heat which causes it to change colour from dark blue to a washed out light blue colour. The use of technology seems interesting as new and upcoming fabrics can change the way garments are made to be functional.

Here i was looking at the simple silhouettes that featured little detail as its all about it being functional. The use of 1 key functional pocket transforms the shirt as having one key detail that's practical as a pocket or just a design on the shirt. This cape has very limited detail simple silhouette its all about the cape being practical being able to layer underneath and wear this on top.

Performance fabrics

In order to understand the elements of performance fabrics i researched a wide range of performance fabrics in order to help me understand the fabric qualities. These fabrics were practical/waterproof/breathable/UV resistant .etc.
